Book Review – Bleachers

Bleachers

By John Grisham

Reviewed by Paul McMahon

Here is another book by John Grisham without lawyers, judges and courts and with no murders.

Coach Eddy Rake is dying of cancer. A number of his former players gather in the bleachers of the high school football stadium where they played for him to await his death and attend his funeral.

While they wait they talk about the coach and his influence on each of their lives. They straighten out some misunderstandings and reminisce about what he did for them, how he built teams and taught them to trust each other. One of the players is in prison and another, who is the sheriff, goes to get him out so he could attend the funeral.

Just a great heartwarming story about life after football and the friendships it builds.
