Here is a book that is different.

The book is written in the first person and the person is Christopher Boone who has Asperger’s Syndrome.

Christopher is writing a book for his teacher at the special school he attends in Swindon which is three hours from London, England

Christopher gets up one night and looks out the window and sees that the neighbor’s poodle has a garden fork stuck in it and appears to be dead. This is a mystery that Christopher decides to investigate. As he investigates he learns things that unravel his like and force him to extend himself and to do many things that he has never done before like approaching strangers, riding trains, taking the tube (London Subway), dealing with police and taking risks.

The first thing you notice is that the chapters are numbered with prime numbers — 2,3,5,7,11 … rather than the conventional 1,2,3,4,5,6,7, … The narrative leaps around with Christopher’s brain. While I have never dealt with someone with asperger’s, the book seems to give us an insight into a sufferer.

By the way, while the story goes on Christopher takes the A-Level Math tests which are required for college entrance. Read the story to see how he does.

Overall, a fascinating listen.
